Temple Etiquette Guidelines

General Temple Rules for All

  • Dress modestly: Avoid revealing or tight clothing
  • Cover shoulders and knees
  • Remove shoes before entering the temple premises. Shoes at the wedding hall may be permitted. Shoes on stage/mandap NOT permitted
  • Avoid black clothing garments
  • Keep hair tidy, long hair should be tied or clipped back
  • No hats or sunglasses inside the temple
  • Do not carry food, alcohol, tobacco, or non-vegetarian items inside the temple. Temple food is strictly vegetarian and no alcohol
  • Parents are kindly requested to keep their children with them during the wedding ceremony and ensure they remain off the mandap and stage unless specifically invited

Guidelines for Women

  • Preferred attire: Salwar kameez, lehenga choli, or long skirts with modest tops and a dupatta
  • Shoulders and arms must be covered (no tank tops)
  • No bare stomach/crop tops
  • Legs must be covered (no shorts, mini or midi skirts, or ripped jeans)
  • A dupatta (scarf) is often used to cover the chest area
  • Some temples may ask women not to enter during menstruation. Entering the wedding hall is permitted

Guidelines for Men

  • Preferred attire: Dhoti or veshti, long kurta or tunic
  • Western clothes like shirts and trousers may be allowed
  • Shorts, sleeveless tops, and tank tops are not appropriate
  • T-shirts with offensive messages should be avoided
